Striving for the best possible practice, guided by our core values of purpose, excellence, compassion, integrity, and respect.

Kathryn Stalder

Veterinarian & Practice Owner (BSc (Vet) BVSc (Hons1) MVSc MANZCVS)

Kathryn graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney in 2005, and since graduation has pursued additional study and attained membership by examination to the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in the fields of small animal and wildlife medicine. In 2013 Kathryn completed a Master's degree by research at the University of Melbourne, investigating the prevalence and significance herpesvirus infections in Australian marsupials. She has worked in a variety of different veterinary practices both here in Australia and also overseas. Kathryn has a special interest in small animal medicine, wildlife and exotic animal medicine, pathology and more recently has become interested in integrative or complementary therapies (including whole-food diets, herbs, nutritional support and laser therapy) to assist with management of challenging or chronic cases. She is passionate about partnering with pet-owners to maintain their pet's wellbeing throughout all stages of life, seeking to find and address the root cause of illness where possible, and optimising therapy based on the individual animal's needs. Kathryn is Fear-Free certified, and seeks to ensure every vet visit is as positive and stress-free as possible. Kathryn has two retired racing greyhounds (Ebony and Cookie), two crazy cats (Rajah and Phoenix) and a bearded dragon (Flame) to keep her occupied at home!

Olivia Barron

Veterinarian (BVSc)

Dr. Liv has had a lifelong love for animals and graduated from Massey University in New Zealand with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 2010. She has worked in various mixed and small animal hospitals in New Zealand, before making the move to Australia in mid-2023 with her fiancée and young daughter.

Liv was delighted to join the Nelson Bay Vet team in September 2023 and is loving meeting our wonderful clients and their special pets. She has a keen interest in veterinary dentistry and internal medicine.

Outside of work she loves to spend time exploring the outdoor beauty of Nelson Bay and beyond, and especially enjoys trail running and mountain biking. Liv has a beloved 3 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback called Zeke.

Dr. Liv is currently on maternity leave.

Jess

Practice Manager (Cert IV Veterinary Nursing RVN)

Jess joined us in 2022 after a hiatus from vet nursing for several years, and is now our Practice Manager. She brings with her fabulous insights into team building, organisation, and has hit the ground running in her new role with us as she adjusts to the pace of veterinary practice again!

At home, Jess is mum to her delightful daughter Piper, two rabbits, Chester and Hazel, and a cat named Flynn.

Jess is currently on maternity leave.

Chloe

Senior Vet Nurse (Cert IV Veterinary Nursing RVN)

Chloe is one of our wonderful senior nurses! Chloe loves surgical and anaesthetic nursing, and when your pet is undergoing a procedure she will be there making sure they are breathing well, with good blood pressure, maintaining a normal body temperature and staying asleep!

Chloe is also our go-to tech guru, and helps us navigate the idiosyncratic demands of our record keeping system which can cause a lot of frustration at times!

Your pets are in safe, gentle and compassionate hands with Chloe as their nurse... and they love her too!

Chloe has two crazy and mischievous labrador, Shadow and Sunnie, and a scaredy cat called Caspar.

Chloe is currently on maternity leave.

Tenille

Veterinary Nurse

Tenille is one of our beautiful nurses whose love for animals is so evident in the way she interacts with every single patient: whether they be feathered, furred or scaled!

Tenille can often be found comforting and soothing pets in the hospital or waiting room when they need a little extra TLC. She diligently identifies and meets every need an animal might have during their stay - whether it be a walk to the toilet, an extra comfy blanket, or emotional support!

Tenille holds a special soft spot for greyhounds, and has her own beautiful retired boy called Blueboy.

Meg

Senior Vet Nurse (Cert IV Veterinary Nursing)

We are incredibly fortunate to have Meg on our team. Meg is an experienced veterinary nurse, who is standing in for Jess as practice manager whilst Jess is away on maternity leave.

Meg has an impressive resume, with experience in wildlife, GP, emergency and specialist nursing across Australia. Prior to veterinary nursing, Meg was a zookeeper, wildlife researcher and safari guide in Africa!

Her special interests include anaesthesia, rehabilitation, wildlife and fear free practices. She loves seeing how an extra little bit of effort can make such a big difference to her patients and their families.

Outside of work, Meg enjoys catching sunrises and sunsets, exploring nature and travelling. She and her partner live in Nelson Bay. She is sure it won't be long until something furry creeps back into their lives.

N.B. If you want to get on her good side, her weaknesses are senior dogs, coffee, and pastries.

Mandy

Senior Vet Nurse (Cert IV Veterinary Nursing)

We are so lucky to have Mandy join us upon her return to the area in 2024. An experienced senior veterinary nurse, she has worked all over the country.

Nursing is Mandy's passion - and it shows. From surgical patients to the sickest hospitalised pets, Mandy strives to provide the care they need with compassion and professionalism. If that means giving them cuddles, so be it ðŸ˜‰

She loves working within a team and having fun along the way.

At home, she has a 19-year-old rainbow lorikeet, and a Border Collie puppy named Millie.

Chelsea

Veterinary Nurse (Cert IV Veterinary Nursing)

Chelsea is one of our fantastic veterinary nurses, who has completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2024.

Chelsea is a gentle and caring person who loves ensuring your pets receive all the creature comforts they are accustomed to. She has a beautiful Blue Heeler, aptly named Bandit, at home... who as his name suggests, gets up to some mischief!

Alisha

Veterinary Nurse (Cert IV Veterinary Nursing)

We welcomed Alisha to the team as a work placement student during her Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing, and she completed her qualifications with us in July 2024.

Alisha is a perfect fit for our fear-free philosophy environment. She gravitates toward anxious pets, gaining their trust, and helping them feel comfortable. She loves cuddling with her patients.

She is well and truly a dog lover, with 3 dogs at home - Ziggy the dachshund, and Boston and Zarli, two staffies. When not at Nelson Bay Vet, you may see her as an animal attendant at AREC, or chasing sunsets.

Simba

CEO (M. PURRS)

Simba, the Clinic King

Simba the clinic cat, oh what a sight,
With fur as white as snow and eyes so bright.
He struts around like he owns the place,
Wearing his bandana with such grace.

He's a ragdoll cat with points so light,
And when he sleeps, he sleeps just right.
On his back with paws up high,
He dreams of treats that are oh so nigh.

But don't be fooled by his cute little grin,
Simba can be mischievous and loves to win.
He's torn open bags of food with such glee,
And rejected brands that are not up to his degree.

He bites the nurses, but don't take it to heart,
It's just his way of showing he's smart.
And when it comes to his throne, he won't budge,
Claiming the receptionist's chair as his own personal judge.

So if you see Simba, give him a wave,
And remember that he's the one who's brave.
He's the king of the clinic, with his own special seat,
And don't forget to bring treats for him to eat!

Shan Rixon

ICT Technician (B. Eng (Software), BVSc)

Shan graduated from the University of Sydney in 2015. After graduation, she worked in small animal practice. Prior to becoming a veterinarian, she was a software engineer! At Nelson Bay Vet, Shan helps us with our continuing innovation - bringing you the best services in pet care that technology can provide.
